Case Study Overview:Kwai Yi House in Kwai Yin Court, Tai Wo, features the classic "New Cross Type" HOS building design, renowned for its highly functional layout and spacious, well-defined living and dining areas. However, as a mature estate completed in 1993 (now 33 years old), it naturally faced chronic pain points: aging utilities and vulnerable window frames prone to rain seepage.

The top priority for the Cheung Hing engineering team was to fortify the hidden infrastructure. We completely overhauled the flat's plumbing and electrical wiring to guarantee absolute long-term safety. Simultaneously, we executed advanced waterproofing reinforcements around the windows, permanently eliminating any structural leakage issues during heavy storms.

For the interior design, the flat needed to comfortably accommodate a senior family member. Our designer capitalized on the estate's natural advantages—square spatial geometry and massive windows—to blend practical accessibility with emotional comfort:

  1. A Sanctuary of Serenity: The walls were painted in a soft, muted white tone, paired with circular diffused ceiling lights. This setup gently softens the abundant natural sunlight beaming through the windows, creating a deeply relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.
  2. Preserving Cherished Memories: The flooring and bespoke custom cabinetry throughout the flat utilize a unified mahogany wood palette. This layout intentionally preserves the familiar living environment and aesthetic textures that the senior resident has trusted and loved for decades.
  3. Uncompromising Elder Care: To cater to the senior resident's daily living requirements, we implemented professional anti-slip and moisture-resistant surface treatments across the entire bathroom, supplemented by strategically integrated safety handrails.

This project is a masterclass in compassionate, thoughtful design. By addressing these senior-friendly details, we have successfully eased the physical strain and reduced the cognitive anxiety often felt by elderly residents in modernized spaces. Cheung Hing's three decades of rock-solid craftsmanship have turned this 33-year-old flat into a safe, spacious, and heartwarming generational sanctuary.
